Former Cornell President to Speak at Colby

Hunter R. Rawlings III will give this year's Peter A. Vlachos '58 Classics Lecture on October 11 at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. The talk, "James Madison's classical scholarship: an intellectual in the White House," will be held at 4 p.m. in room 213, Lovejoy. It is free and open to the public.

Rawlings is a professor of classics at Cornell University and President emeritus of Cornell (1995-2003) and the University of Iowa (1988-1995). He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and of the Board of Directors of the American Council on Education. He is the author of the highly influential The Structure of Thucydides' History (Princeton 1988), scholarly monographs, and articles, and was editor of the Classical Journal.
