Garry Mitchell Exhibition Opens at Colby College Museum of Art

Painter Garry Mitchell presents his first solo museum exhibition as a Colby faculty member, featuring more than 25 recent paintings that combine a calligraphic quality of line, atmospheric space, and his unique sensibility as a colorist. The exhibition runs from February 11 to April 24. The opening reception, which is open to the public, is on Sunday, February 13, from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the museum.

Mitchell will give a gallery talk about his work at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, at the museum.

Every year the Colby College Museum of Art features a one-person exhibition by a member of the studio faculty from the Art Department, exposing visitors to the work of those who instruct the artists among Colby's student body. Mitchell has taught at Colby for seven years, three as an assistant professor, and has exhibited his work in the museum's annual group faculty exhibition and at other venues throughout the state.

The Colby College Museum of Art is open 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. It is closed on Mondays. Admission is free, and the museum is accessible to people with disabilities. For more information call 207-872-3228 or visit http://www.colby.edu/museum/.
