From Aerial to Submerged, Air & Water Delivers Extremes Onstage at Colby

Air & Water, a Bennett Dance Company production that takes dancers from 18 feet above ground to submerged under water, will appear at Colby College on Friday, February 25, at 7:30 p.m., in Strider Theater on the Waterville campus.

Known for taking physical risks, Bennett Dance Company members Christine Bennett, Andrea Blesso, Mary McCarthy, DeAnna Pellecchia, and Ingrid Schatz leave the ground in the first half of the show via a large rope net (26' x 18'). The dancers navigate the web-like terrain, become entranced by its magnetic powers, and swing on ropes.

Choreographer Bennett and visual artist Michael Dowling collaborate to produce exciting visual imagery as dancers hover above, float within, and encircle a four-foot by four-foot, water-filled copper pool. Skin, copper, light, and water captivate the eye while powerful dancing depicts of women as the keepers of water.

In 1996 Bennett, the artistic director, founded Bennett Dance Company, an organization committed to using dance as a positive, empowering, and collaborative art form. The company's performances blend modern dance with sculpture, photography, martial arts, and original music, and challenge dancers to push both physical and mental boundaries.

General admission is $3; students and seniors are $2. For ticket information call the box office at 872-3358 between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday the week of the performance. Or call 872-3388 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
