Colby College Chorale: An Evening of Regal Music

Returning from a European tour, during which it performed in the historic cities of Prague and Vienna, the Colby College Chorale performs a concert at Colby's Waterville campus on Saturday, April 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Lorimer Chapel. Billed as "An Evening of Regal Music," Saturday's concert features work by composers from Russia, England, Germany, and America, as well as lovesong waltzes. The concert, which is free and open to the public, is the Inaugural Concert of the Arnold Bernhard Professorship in Arts and Humanities.

The concert will provide a glimpse into the world of 20th-century choral music and acknowledge the Easter season with Gregorian chant as well as works by Rachmaninoff and Charles Stanford. Janacek, Brahms, Orff, and the American Carlyle Sharpe will also be represented.

Paul Machlin, director of the Chorale, is the Arnold Bernhard Professor of Arts and Humanities at Colby, where he has been a member of the faculty for 31 years. He also directs the Colby-Kennebec Choral Society, an ensemble of faculty, staff, and community members.
