Colby's Synthetic Turf "Bill Alfond Field" To Be Dedicated April 30

The Bill Alfond Field, Colby’s new 240-by-360-foot synthetic turf field, will be dedicated on Saturday, April 30. The ceremony should begin at approximately noon and is scheduled between the 10:30 a.m. women’s lacrosse game against Connecticut College and the 1 p.m. men’s lacrosse game against Wesleyan.

The synthetic playing field is named for Colby Trustee Bill Alfond, Class of 1972, who, with his wife, Joan, made the naming gift for the field. Many other alumni and parents also contributed to the project, which was begun in 2004 and completed over the winter. Bill and Joan Alfond continue the Alfond and Levine families' long tradition of supporting and improving athletics at Colby.

The Bill Alfond Field is the primary field for intercollegiate field hockey and men's and women's lacrosse competition and is marked with a variety of permanent and changeable lines. It also serves as a practice or back-up field for other intercollegiate teams and for club and intramural sports, and it is made available to the Central Maine community. The facility is illuminated for night use and is equipped with a scoreboard, restrooms, and spectator seating.
