Collegium Musicum at Colby College Presents Songs of Spring
Celebrate spring with music for the "Sweet Season" by Colby's Collegium Musicum on Saturday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Lorimer Chapel on the Waterville campus. The concert is free and the public is invited.
In the Middle Ages and Renaissance, the approach of spring carried a wealth of symbolic associations, both sacred and secular. From love songs to pastoral dances and Easter chants, this program, conducted by David Rothenberg, explores medieval and Renaissance springtime music, featuring works by Guillaume de Machaut, Josquin des Prez, Orlando di Lasso, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Claudio Monteverdi, and others.
Collegium Musicum is a chamber group performing music from the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods. It includes Colby students, faculty, and staff along with local musicians.
