Colby Presents Jose Rivera's Marisol, April 21-23
Marisol, the Obie Award-winning play by Jose Rivera, will be presented Thursday through Saturday, April 21-23, at 7:30 p.m. in the Strider Theater at Colby College in Waterville. A company of 12 actors will be directed by Theater and Dance Department Chair Joylynn Wing with Colby senior Rachel Damon as assistant director. Admission is charged.
In a stunning leap of imagination, Latino playwright Jose Rivera paints an apocalyptic vision of environmental catastrophe. Marisol, (Angie Polanco '08), a young urban office worker, is deserted by her guardian angel (Xavier Garcia '05), who urges her to take up arms against a senile God. She is joined by her friend June (Meg Musser '05) and June's brother Lenny (Daniel Adams '08).
Throughout the play Marisol encounters many people who help her to better understand the transformations of her world that are caused by the revolt of the angels, including the Man with Scar Tissue (Aaron Stepka '06) and the Woman with Furs (Tara Studley '05). In the face of imminent cosmological disaster, Marisol finds compassion, courage, humanity, and love.
Marisol is suitable for mature teens and adults. General admission is $3; students and seniors are $2.
