Colby College Museum of Art Profiled on MPBN
Final Stop on The Maine Art Museum Trail to Air Saturday, August 27
The Colby College Museum of Art in Waterville will be the subject of a half-hour profile as part of The Maine Art Museum Trail series, an original production of the Maine Public Broadcasting Network. The program will be broadcast on Saturday, August 27 at 7:30 p.m. on the television stations of MPBN.
The seventh and final installment in The Maine Art Museum Trail series on MPBN, the forthcoming new episode chronicles how, in a relatively short period of time, the Colby College Museum of Art has grown to house several outstanding collections and become one of the most exceptional academic art museums in the country.
The program takes viewers through the museum's four wings, each with its own spatial features that provide unique advantages to displaying certain works of art. Paintings by Winslow Homer, a sculpture by Richard Serra, large-scale paintings by Alex Katz, two galleries dedicated to John Marin, and impressive collections of American heritage and folk art are featured in the program. Also profiled are the enthusiastic and forward-thinking members of the community who have helped the museum come so far so fast.
The Maine Art Museum Trail series made its debut on MPBN in 2003. The purpose of the televised Maine art series, according to executive producer Barbara Noyes Pulling, is to "provide a video showcase of the wide variety of artistic talent, high quality art collections and top notch museum facilities in Maine, in outsize proportion to the state's small population."
A back-to-back rebroadcast of each of the other six programs in The Maine Art Museum Trail series will immediately follow the Colby episode.
Other museums that have been spotlighted in addition to Colby College's include the Bates College Museum of Art in Lewiston, the Bowdoin College Museum of Art in Brunswick, Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, the Ogunquit Museum of American Art, the Portland Museum of Art and the University of Maine Museum of Art in Bangor.�
