Thursday, September 8, 5:30 p.m. reception, 6 p.m. lecture
Guest Curator David Cohen on Alex Katz: Collages
Room 150, Bixler Art and Music Center
Guest curator David Cohen will speak about Alex Katz's collages, currently on display in the museum. Cohen, gallery director for the New York Studio School and art critic for the New York Sun, will examine Katz's collages within the context of the artist's mature work and within a history of modernism.

Portland String Quartet
Lorimer Chapel
The Portland String Quartet will use the 2005-06 concert season to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Mozart’s birth. Their fall concert will feature Adagio and Fugue, K. 546 and the string quartets K. 387, 421, and 465 (the "Dissonance" quartet), in G major, D minor, and C major, respectively.

Ugly Ducklings
Strider Theater, Runnals Building, Colby College, Waterville
This theatrical production explores homophobia, bullying, and youth suicide at a girls’ summer camp in Maine.
Written by Carolyn Gage, directed by Cathy Plourde, and collaboratively produced by Hardy Girls Healthy Women and Greater Waterville’s Communities for Children/Youth Coalition.
Tickets are $10 for general admission and $2 for teens, Colby students, and senior citizens. Box office is open Monday through Saturday during the week of the performance from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Caroline Borge ’99 of ABC News Primetime Live will address the complex process of making television documentaries. She will focus on ABC’s controversial 2003 documentary Jesus, Mary, and Da Vinci, for which she was ABC’s researcher.

Visiting Writer Mario Moroni with music by Jonathan Hallstrom
The Paul J. Schupf Wing, Colby College Museum of Art
Moroni is the Paganucci Assistant Professor of Italian at Colby. One of Moroni’s most notable works is a book of essays on Italian poetry in the 1960s and 1970s titled From Eugenio Montale to Amelia Rosselli. Professor Moroni has also served as an editor for works on Italian Modernism.

An Evening of Bach

Pianist and Bach specialist Bruce Murray offers an all-Bach evening featuring all the keyboard inventions and sinfonias, two suites, and the Concerto in F major ("Italian"), BWV 971. Dr. Murray is artistic director and dean of the Brevard Music Center.

Saving the Maine Woods with Jym St. Pierre, Maine director, RESTORE: The North Woods

Plum Creek Timber Company has proposed the largest residential development in Maine history for the Moosehead region. In response, a variety of conservation ideas are being advocated. This slide talk will touch on them, with a focus on the proposed Maine Woods National Park and Preserve.

Ongoing Exhibitions at the Colby College Museum of Art

Alex Katz: Collages
Between 1955 and 1960, Alex Katz produced a group of about 70 collages that were made from sheets of colored paper. This exhibition brings together a comprehensive group of these collages for the first time. A catalogue of these works, by guest curator David Cohen, will accompany the exhibit.

Terry Winters: Prints & Sequences
As the sole repository of an entire archive of prints by Terry Winters, the museum will present an exhibition of more than 150 of the artist's prints spanning the past two decades. This exhibition will display a number of series in their entirety, and Winters's work in a variety of printing techniques will be on display.
