Colby Announces Fall Visiting Writers Series

From modern Italian poetry to fiction about fragile family bonds, Colby's fall Visiting Writers Series once again brings acclaimed authors to Waterville. Each reading takes place on a Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Paul J. Schupf Wing of the Colby College Museum of Art. The three authors will sign books following the readings. Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

September 20: Mario Moroni
Mario Moroni is the Paul and Marilyn Paganucci Assistant Professor of Italian at Colby. He has published six volumes of poetry and a collection of short stories in Italian. A bilingual edition of his poems is forthcoming from Chelsea Press. Moroni has published many articles, two books of criticism, and co-edited two volumes of essays. Jonathan Hallstrom will present live music. A 5:30 p.m. reception in the Blue Light Pub in Cotter Union will precede the reading.

October 25: Martha Rhodes
Martha Rhodes, winner of the 2000 Green Rose Prize for Poetry, is the author of three collections of poetry: At the Gate, Perfect Disappearance, and Mother Quiet. Her work has appeared in many journals, including Agni, American Poetry Review, Harvard Review, Ploughshares, and TriQuarterly, and has been anthologized in Extraordinary Tide: New Poetry by American Women, The New American Poets: A Bread Loaf Anthology, and The KGB Bar Book of Poems.

November 15: Lily King
Lily King, author of the critically acclaimed debut novel, The Pleasing Hour (1999), comes to Colby to read from her new work, The English Teacher, which New York's Newsday called "moving and deeply absorbing." A native of Cambridge, Mass, King won the 2001 Whiting Award for "emerging writers of exceptional talent and promise." A 5:30 p.m. reception in the Blue Light Pub in Cotter Union will precede the reading.

The Visiting Writers Series is sponsored by Colby's Creative Writing Program.
