Colby Chamber Players Makes Debut October 15

Four members of Colby's Music Department have teamed up to create a dynamic new group that will make its debut on Saturday, October 15, at 7:30 p.m. in Given Auditorium, Bixler Art and Music Center, on the Waterville campus. The Colby Chamber Players include pianist Cheryl Tschanz, flutist Lee Humphreys, violinist Graybert Beacham, and clarinetist Eric Thomas. The concert is free and the public is welcome.

The Colby Chamber Players grew from the idea that there should be a way to highlight the talent of the internationally acclaimed musicians on Colby's faculty. In every concert the players will present a new piece of work written specifically for them, and each year a visiting guest artist will join the group.

In its debut concert, the Colby Chamber Players will present a virtuosic piece for two pianos, Variations on a Theme by Paganini, by Witold Lutoslawski; selections from eight pieces for clarinet by Max Bruch, with clarinet, cello, and piano; a piece for flute, violin, and piano by Bohuslav Martinu; Fantasy on an American Hymn Tune by English composer Kenneth Leighton; and the premiere of The Lamb Suite, a jazz- and African-influenced work with children's themes, by composer Emily Wong.
