Colby Presents Wind Ensemble Performance, November 12

Colby College will present a Colby Wind Ensemble performance on Saturday, November 12, at 7:30 p.m. in Lorimer Chapel on the Waterville campus. The concert is open to the public free of charge.

The concert will explore the concept of "Women and Children First" through compositions by women, and about -- or for -- children. Scheduled for performance are Julie Giroux's "Mystery on Mena Mountain;" Debussy's "Golliwog�s Cakewalk" from the Children�s Corner Suite; Fanfares by Libby Larsen and Joan Tower; Cecile Chaminade's "Concertino for Flute;" Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf;" and theme music to the film Titanic. The Colby College Wind Ensemble includes Colby students and members of the community.

Additional concerts scheduled in the Music at Colby series this fall, all in Lorimer Chapel, include:

Saturday, November 19, 7:30 p.m.
Collegium Musicum
An evening of poetry, madrigals, a cappella airs, and solo songs from Elizabethan and Jacobean times.

Saturday, December 3, 7:30 p.m.
Colby Symphony Orchestra
Visiting Professor Marshall T. Fulbright conducts "Variations on a Theme of Haydn" (Op. 56a) by Brahms, "Huapango" by Jose Pablo Moncayo, and "Pavane for a Dead Princess" by Maurice Ravel.

Thursday, December 8, 7 p.m.
Colby College Chorale: Service of Lessons and Carols
The Colby College Chorale�s Service of Lessons and Carols includes readings from the King James Bible and a variety of choral music associated with Advent. Works performed include settings of traditional carol texts by several European composers from across the historical spectrum as well as 19th-century carols and compositions by contemporary composers.

Saturday, December 10, preludes 3:30 and 7 p.m., services 4 and 7:30 p.m.
