Tickets Available for Two Services of Carols at Colby

Colby will offer tickets for its 36th Annual Service of Carols and Lights on Monday, November 21, at 5 p.m. in the Cotter Union lobby. The services, which combine music and worship, will be held Friday, December 9, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, December 10, at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., in Lorimer Chapel on the Waterville campus.

In conjunction with the Carols and Lights Services, Music at Colby will present The Colby College Chorale in a program of Lessons and Carols for Advent on Thursday, December 8, at 7:30 p.m. in Lorimer Chapel. Tickets are free and the services are open to the public.

The Service of Carols and Lights begins with musical preludes at 7 p.m. The service includes Advent and Christmas readings and carols sung by the congregation. Student vocalists, instrumentalists, and choral and a cappella groups contribute both traditional and contemporary music of the season. The singing of "Carols by Candlelight" follows the traditional lighting of candles throughout the congregation. The service concludes with "Silent Night."

Lessons and Carols for Advent is modeled on the English Service of Lessons and Carols, and consists of excerpts from the Old and New Testament interspersed with a variety of carols. The prelude begins at 7:15 p.m. At the service, Colby President William D. Adams and Waterville City Councilors Rosemary Winslow and Henry Beck '09, among others, will read lessons. The Chorale will perform music including Gregorian chant, European carols from the Renaissance, 19th, and 20th centuries, and American works. The congregation will sing several traditional carols.

Tickets, which allow admission to both events, are limited and must be picked up. For further ticket information, call 859-4610.
