Father Paul Plante Exhibits Paintings at Museum

Blue Jay The exhibition "The Eye: Mirror of the Soul" featuring the paintings of Father Paul Plante will be on display at the Colby College Museum of Art January 14 through February 25. Plante’s work depicts detailed images from the natural world in intense color. An opening reception is planned for 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 14, and the public is invited.

A native of Sanford, Maine, Plante is currently Pastor of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Winslow, Maine. He obtained a bachelor of fine arts at the Portland School of Art in 1984 and earned degrees in philosophy and theology from the University of Montreal and St. Paul’s University, Ottawa.

Plante’s small-scale oil pastels represent natural objects and scenes from nature. His paintings of birds recreate the experience of glancing up and seeing a bird take flight. Plante has created two lengthy series of works, one devoted the exploration of the plum and the other depicting all of the birds native to the state of Maine.

Colby museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free, and the museum is accessible to persons with disabilities. For information call (207) 872-3228 or visit www.colby.edu/museum.
