"City of Angels" Musical at Colby, Feb. 9-11 and 15-17 The Department of Theater and Dance and the Department of Music at Colby College in Waterville will present the musical and Hollywood mystery City of Angels on February 9-11 and 15-17. Performances will be held nightly at 7:30 p.m. in Strider Theater of Runnals Performing Arts Center. City of Angels is a musical about a Hollywood mystery writer, Stine, who is trying to adapt his own detective novel into a screenplay. As Stine buries himself in the fantasy world of his detective story, however, his personal life begins to fall apart and the sleazy associates he meets while working on the movie begin to crop up in his script. Written by Larry Gelbart, with music by Cy Coleman and lyrics by David Zippel, City of Angels spoofs the private eye movies of the 1940s. Richard Sewell, associate professor of theater and dance, will direct the play and Paul Machlin, Arnold Bernhard professor of music, is music director for the production. Brian Stephens ’01 of East Patchogue, N.Y., will play the role of Stine, and Ted Wallach ’01 of New York, N.Y., will play Stone, Stine’s fictional detective.
