Amadou Diallo's Mother at Colby on Feb. 12

Kadiatou Diallo will give a talk titled "The Legacy of Amadou Diallo" on Monday, February 12, at Colby College in Waterville. The lecture begins at 7 p.m. in the Page Commons Room of Cotter Union and is open to the public and free of charge.

Kadiatou Diallo is the mother of Amadou Diallo, the 23-year-old West African immigrant killed in 1999 in the vestibule of his New York City apartment building. Amadou Diallo’s death sparked a national debate on racial profiling and police brutality. What began as a search for a rape suspect in the Bronx ended with four white police officers firing 41 bullets at Diallo. The officers claimed Diallo matched the rapist’s description and said they believed Diallo was reaching for a gun, when in fact he was unarmed and removing his wallet. The officers were later acquitted in the death and Kadiatou Diallo now has a civil suit pending against the officers.
