Cellist Witkin Performs at Colby March 4 Cellist Steve Witkin will give a concert on Sunday, March 4, at 3 p.m. in Colby CollegeÕs Given Auditorium in the Bixler Art and Music Center. Witkin will be accompanied by Cheryl Tschanz, adjunct associate professor of music at Colby, and together they will perform pieces for cello and piano. The performance is open to the public and free of charge. The concert will consist of 19th-century romantic works for cello and piano. The program will include Frederic ChopinÕs Sonata for Piano and Cello, Robert SchumannÕs Five Pieces in Folk Style and Johannes BrahmsÕs Sonata No. 2 in F Major. Witkin is a local musician who is currently principal cellist with the Colby Symphony Orchestra, the largest college and community orchestra in Maine. Tschanz, who made her major orchestral debut with the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra at the age of 11, has performed throughout the United States, Canada, France, Italy and Finland. She also has performed in New YorkÕs Lincoln Center and Carnegie Recital Hall. She is an adjunct assistant professor of music and teaches piano at Colby.
