50th Annual Colby Institute for Leadership is March 28
On Wednesday, March 28, Colby College will offer its 50th annual program for leaders in the Maine workplacethe 2001 Colby Institute for Leadership. This years theme is "Visionary Leadership" and the program will present sessions on e-commerce, global ethics and leadership dynamics. Keynote speakers are Michael Dolence, a nationally acclaimed speaker on organizational transformation; Rushworth Kidder, an author and president of the Institute for Global Ethics; and Paul Brown, president and CEO of Leadership Dynamics.
The program runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Colbys campus in Waterville. Participants need to register in advance to attend the institute. At 9 a.m. in the first general session, Dolence will present "Digital Destiny and the Future of e-Commerce." Dolence will discuss the emergence of the digital dimension and how it will continue to affect virtually every sector of the economic, social and political structure of the globe. At 10:35 a.m. Kidder will present "Ethical Leadership and the 21st Century." Kidder will focus on why ethics matter, how to think about ethics and apply them to daily dilemmas, and what ethical issues lie ahead in the workplace. At 2 p.m. Brown will present "Leadership Dynamics." Brown will present simple, innovative practices anyone can immediately put into action to increase their productivity.
Governor Angus King will speak at noon on Maine and the global economy and will present the 2001 Governors Awards for Business Excellence to Maine companies. A printed program will recognize winners of the awards since their inception in 1991. Organizations that have supported the institute for the past 50 years by their participation on the planning committee will also be recognized.
The Leadership Institute emphasizes practical information that participants can use in their own workplaces, according to Joan Sanzenbacher, Colbys director of special programs and one of the institutes organizers.
Registration, lunch and an afternoon reception are included in the $175 fee, and four or more participants from the same organization are eligible for a group discount.
