William Moomaw to Present Lecture on March 9

On Friday, March 9, William Moomaw, director of the Tufts University Institute of the Environment, will present a lecture on energy conservation policy at Colby College in Waterville. The lecture, "Charting a New Global Energy Trajectory: Addressing the Imperatives of Climate, the Economy and National Security," will be held at 1 p.m. in the Page Commons Room of Cotter Union. The event is open to the public and free of charge.

Moomaw will discuss how new energy policies emphasizing increased use of fossil fuels may threaten the U.S. economy, national security and the global environment. He will propose an alternative method to energy production that will shift our energy economy from fossil fuels to one that is more efficient and environment-friendly over the next 50 years.

Moomaw is currently professor of international environmental policy and founding director of the International Environment and Resource Policy Program at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. He is also director of the Tufts Institute of the Environment. The author of The People and Their Planet, his work has appeared in publications such as The Journal of Environment and Development, Ecological Economics and Electricity Journal. Moomaw received his Ph.D. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has dedicated nearly 30 years of his career to researching, writing and teaching environmental policy.
