Colby Lecture on Global Finance in Japan February 27 On Tuesday, February 27, Bowdoin professor of Asian studies Henry Laurence will give a talk on international finance at Colby College in Waterville. The lecture, "East Asian Challenges to the IMF Consensus: Japanese Regional Leadership and the Asian Financial Crisis," will be held at 4 p.m. in the Robins Room of Roberts Building. The event is open to the public free of charge and a reception will follow. Laurence has published work on topics including Japanese gangsters, the Asian currency crisis and Korean unification. He is the author of Money Rules: The New Politics of Finance in Britain and Japan, a book that examines the effects of globalization on national politics. Laurence is currently at work on his latest project, a book comparing Japans television and broadcasting policies to other technologically advanced nations. The February 27 lecture is sponsored by Colbys East Asian Studies Department and Economics Department. |
