Sculptor Engman at Colby, March 14

On Wednesday, March 14, sculptor Robert Engman will present a film and slides of his work at Colby College in Waterville. The 8 p.m. event will be held in room one of the F.W. Olin Science Building and is open to the public free of charge.

Engman creates sculptures in a variety of materials and sizes, though he is best known for his large-scale works in cast bronze. His art frequently juxtaposes knife-sharp edge with soft curves. Engman’s work has been included in exhibitions around the country and abroad, and his sculptures are included in the collections of the Hirshhorn Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of Art, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and others.

Engman holds a bachelor’s degree from the Rhode Island School of Design and two master’s degrees from Yale University, one in painting and one in sculpture. He has taught at the Rhode Island School of Design and Yale, where he was director of graduate studies in sculpture. From 1964 until his recent appointment as professor emeritus, he was director of graduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania.
