Photographer and Printmaker Present at Colby

Two artists will talk about their work this week at Colby College in Waterville. Printmaker Scott Reeds will give a talk on Tuesday, March 20, at 7:30 p.m. in room 154 of the Bixler Art and Music Building. Colby’s own printmaker Scott Reed will introduce the lecturer. Self-taught photographer Jonathan Bailey will present slides and a lecture on Wednesday, March 21, at 4:30 p.m. in room 154 of Bixler Building. Both events are open to the public and free of charge.

Reeds earned an M.F.A. at Yale University and a B.A. in sculpture at the University of California at Berkeley. He is currently a visiting assistant professor of art at Dartmouth College. Reeds has been awarded a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship in printmaking, a Ford Foundation Special Projects Grant and an award from the New York Foundation for the Arts. He has had numerous group and solo exhibitions in New York, California, Australia and the Dominican Republic.

Bailey’s split-tone techniques support the real yet dramatically transformed imagery he finds in coastal Maine, Mexico, France and other favorite spots. His images and writings are featured in numerous books and publications including the March 2001 issue of CameraArts magazine, James Luciana’s Black and White Photography: An International Collection and Lyle Rexer’s forthcoming The Antiquarian Avant-garde: The New Rise in Old Process Photography. Bailey exhibits nationally and internationally, and his work is included in the collections of The Bibliotheque Nationale, The Royal Photographic Society and Centro Fotografico Manuel Alvarez Bravo, as well as the Denver, Brooklyn and New Orleans museums of art.
