On Tuesday, Sept. 15, President Adams addressed students in a State of the College Address. His remarks followed a welcome by Student Government Association president and vice president Jake Fischer '10 and Katie Unsworth '10. On Saturday, June 6, 2009, as part of Reunion Weekend, President Adams presented his State of the College address to alumni. He talked about the many challenges and successes of the past year, including the financial situation, a formal review of the curriculum by faculty, the admissions picture for the Class of 2013, progress of the campaign, the 50th anniversary of the museum of art, and news from the Board of Trustees. President William D. Adams held a forum for students Wednesday, April 15, 2009, to discuss the events that took place on campus Sunday, April 12. Several hundred students attended the question-and-answer session, which lasted more than three hours. Adams was joined by Richard Ammons, vice president for College Relations, Jim Terhune, vice president for Student Affairs and dean of students, and Doug Terp, vice president for Administration.

In this 12-minute Q&A, President William D. Adams provides a year-end update on Colby and the financial crisis and outlines steps the College leadership is taking to address the current situation and prepare for the future. The bottom line: Colby, while not immune to economic forces, is coping, even as the endowment has declined. College leaders are confident that Colby can fulfill its core mission and remain committed to financial aid policies, including giving grants instead of assigning loans in financial aid packages. In his baccalaureate address to the Class of 2008 Saturday, President William Adams confessed to harboring a lifelong desire to be Tom Waits and eight-years longing to enter the Mr. Colby contest. In the 20-minute talk, which was a hit with students and parents, Adams praised the soon-to-be grads for being "smart, engaged, articulate, thoughtful, and able to think critically and creatively... the most valuable attributes in any kind of work."
