Performing Arts at Colby Presents "Dreamwalk" February 10-12

Students at Colby College will perform "Dreamwalk," an original dance work, Thursday, February 10, through Saturday, February 12, at Colby’s Strider Theater in the Runnals Performing Arts Center. Performances each night begin at 8 p.m.

"Dreamwalk" is an evening-length performance piece based on various stages of sleep and dreams. The eleven-member company of "Dreamwalk," under the artistic direction of performing arts professor Tina Wentzel, spent the fall semester researching dream theory and exploring the perceived boundaries between the conscious and unconscious. The culmination of this work is a 90-minute performance during which dancers journey through dream states of hypnagogia, lucid dreaming and nightmares, and encounter symbols and archetypes such as the anima, animus and shadow along the way. Holly Labbe Russell, a 1994 Colby graduate now living in Augusta, is co-choreographer with Wentzel.

"Our dreams are key to making us whole," said Wentzel. "The membrane that separates our waking and sleeping lives is very thin. Our dreams deserve acknowledgement and attention, whether they make sense to our waking, rational minds or not."

General admission is $3; students and seniors are $2. For ticket information call the box office at 872-3358 between 4-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday of performance week or 872-3388 between 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets may be reserved online.
