Juggling Duo blink at Colby February 25

The award-winning juggling duo blink will perform at 8 p.m. on Friday, February 25, in Colby College’s Strider Theater in the Runnals Performing Arts Center. Performers Fritz Grobe and Morten Hansen of blink combine elements of dance, object manipulation and silent comedy to make both the animate and inanimate dance.

Grobe and Hansen were gold medallists at the International Jugglers’ Championships in Las Vegas, winners of the Dance Portland Professional Choreography Showcase and recipients of a 1996 Maine Artist Fellowship. The duo uses its juggling technique to explore human interactions and perceptions of the impossible. Recent tours of the United States and Great Britain have included performances in Chicago, Minneapolis, Edinburgh and London.

Grobe, blink’s artistic director, has choreographed for juggling ensembles since 1990. In 1993 he received the gold medal at the International Jugglers’ Festival Individual Championships. He studied mathematics at Bowdoin College and Yale University and studied for seven years at the Celebration Barn Theater in South Paris.

Hansen, blink’s technical director, has studied modern dance techniques, directing and clowning. He is a graduate of Simon’s Rock College in Great Barrington, Mass., and received the college’s Arts and Aesthetics Award for his thesis on object manipulation. Both performers are Maine natives and are based in Brunswick.

General admission is $3; students and seniors are $2. For ticket information call the box office at 872-3358 between 4-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday of performance week or 872-3388 between 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets may be reserved online.
