Colby Symphony Orchestra Concert is March 11

On Saturday, March 11, the Colby Symphony Orchestra will perform its annual spring concert under the direction of Jonathan Hallstrom, associate professor of music. The 8 p.m. concert, part of the 1999-2000 Music at Colby Concert Series, will be held in Lorimer Chapel and is open to the public free of charge.
The symphony orchestra will begin the concert with an untitled work by Dexter Morrill, music professor at Colgate University. The work contains two movements, "Waiting at the Station" and "The 20th Century Limited," both with references to trains.

The orchestra also will perform the first movement of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto #3 with Hilary Jansen ’02 (Westport, Mass.) as piano soloist; Gustav Mahler’s Songs of a Wayfarer, featuring tenor Neil Crimins ’02 (North Billerica, Mass.); and Carl Maria von Weber’s Symphony No. 2. Crimins and Jansen were joint winners of the 1999-2000 annual Colby Student Concerto Competition.

Maine’s largest college orchestra, the Colby Symphony Orchestra includes student, faculty and community musicians. For more information on Music at Colby events contact Diane Kadyk at 207.872.3236.
