Boyer Brothers Gospel Concert is March 31

At 8 p.m. on Friday, March 31, in Colby College’s Lorimer Chapel the Boyer Brothers, gospel duo, will perform in concert. Part of the 1999-2000 Music at Colby Concert Series, the performance is open to the public free of charge.

James and Horace Boyer have been singing and playing gospel music together since they were young boys. At the ages of 15 and 16 they began making records, with Horace arranging their first recording, Step by Step. In their teens they appeared with such gospel notables as Mahalia Jackson and Clara Ward. The Boyer Brothers have performed across the nation and in Canada. They have provided the musical documentation of the compositions of Lucie E. Campbell at the Smithsonian Institution.

Horace is a professor of music theory and African-American music at the University of Massachusetts. James is a professor of education at Kansas State University.
