Colby Volunteers Fan Out For "Colby Cares Day" on April 15
About 250 Colby College students, staff, faculty and family volunteers are signed up for the fourth annual Colby Cares Day, which will take place in the greater Waterville area on Saturday, April 15. More than 20 community service projects are planned, according to Rebecca Solomon, Annie Eisinger and Morgan Milner of the Colby Volunteer Center (CVC). The event is co-sponsored by the CVC, which coordinates student volunteer activities throughout the year, and Colbys Student Government Association.
This year, volunteers will take part in projects with organizations such as the Waterville Boys & Girls Club, Waterville Historical Society, Humane Society Waterville Area, Oakland Youth League, Willows Nursing Home, Mount St. Josephs Nursing Home, Belgrade Parks Association, Maine Childrens Home and others.
Colby Cares Day is the culmination of National Volunteer Week, April 9 -15. Activities include an open house hosted by the CVC to kick-off the week, talks by administrators of the Waterville Social Club on the "Spirit of Volunteerism," information tables on the importance of volunteering and volunteering beyond Colby literature, and a fundraising "penny war" contest. Last year more than 200 Colby volunteers participated in the third annual Colby Cares Day, also held during National Volunteer Week in April.
