Students Show Art at Colby Museum of Art

Carolyn Campbell, Kathryn LaRochelle, Kim McCarron, Alanna Mingay, J. Seeley Okie, Katherine Rinaldi and Lindsay Stewart, all seniors working in the studio arts at Colby College, will exhibit their work at the Colby Museum of Art May 4 – 21 in the college’s annual Senior Art Show.

For the show, the students will exhibit works of varying media. Campbell and LaRochelle will display paintings, McCarron and Rinaldi will display prints, Mingay will show paintings and sculptures, and Okie will display sculptures. Stewart will show work in photography resulting from a year-long project during which she worked with a faculty tutor as part of Colby’s Senior Scholar program. Stewart’s photographs of Irish and Scottish storytellers will be enhanced by traditional Celtic music playing from sound tubes mounted above the individual works.

The Colby Museum of Art is home to an outstanding permanent collection that specializes in American art but includes other treasures, from ancient Asian ceramics to works by Rembrandt, Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec and Picasso. The museum also owns more than 500 paintings, drawings, prints and cut-outs by renowned modern artist Alex Katz.

Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday; 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The public is invited, and admission is free. The museum is accessible to disabled persons. For additional information, please call 872-3228.
