International Extravaganza Staged at Colby April 22
International and American students at Colby College in Waterville will stage an "International Extravaganza" on Saturday, April 22, at 6 p.m. in the Page Commons Room of the Cotter Union. Billed as a celebration of international culture and cuisine, the event is open to the public free of charge, and parents are encouraged to take their children.
Produced by Colbys International Club, the event includes a fashion show of traditional dress and contemporary fashions from around the world. Dance numbers will include African, Japanese and Latin pieces. Music from Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America will be performed. A martial arts demonstration, a brass quintet, African drumming and a Latin American poetry reading will round out the event.
In addition to the entertainment and the fashion show, the audience will be treated to international refreshments after the Extravaganza. Student organizers of the Extravaganza include Jackie Ogutha of Kenya; Jason Ri, Ben Schlit, Jason Tom, Vinai Moua, and Adela Kim of the U.S.; Zahra Khilji of Pakistan; Denitsa Hristova of Bulgaria; Michael Bierkandt of Germany; Nyasha Pfukwa of Zimbabwe; and Voytek Wieckowski of Poland.
