Free Concert by Al Coreys Big Band July 9 at Colby
Al Coreys Big Band will perform a free outdoor concert at Colby College in Waterville on Sunday, July 9. The concert, which begins at 6 p.m., will be held at the Gould Music Shell adjacent to the Colby baseball field. The public is invited and is encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
Coreys 16-piece ensemble will perform compositions and arrangements by Glenn Miller, Lawrence Welk, Count Basie and other greats from the Big Band era. Vocalist Jinny Palmer will be one of the bands featured performers. Twins Chris and Meredith Thompson, acoustic folk musicians from Massachusetts, also will perform at the event. "Were going to have a lot of fun," Corey said.
This will be the 29th year that Al Coreys Big Band has performed the popular free concert at Colby. He has played in Maine and New England with various ensembles for more than 50 years since returning in 1946 from a musical tour in the armed services.
