Free Concert by Al Corey's Big Band July 12 at Colby

Al Corey's Big Band will perform a free outdoor concert at Colby College in Waterville on Sunday, July 12. The concert, which begins at 6 p.m., will be held at the Gould Music Shell adjacent to the Colby baseball field. The public is invited and is encouraged to take lawn chairs.

Corey's 16-piece ensemble will perform compositions and arrangements by Glenn Miller, Lawrence Welk, Count Basie and other greats from the Big Band era as well as original scores by Corey's pianist, Alex Johns. Ginnie Palmer will sing with the big band, and a couple of young musicians will perform as well. "It's great family entertainment," Corey said.

This will be the 27th year that Al Corey's Big Band has performed the popular free concert at Colby. He has played in Maine and New England with various ensembles for more than 50 years since returning in 1946 from a musical tour in the armed services.
