Acclaimed pianist Anthony di Bonaventura will perform in Lorimer Chapel at Colby College in Waterville on Monday, July 13. The 7:30 p.m. concert, featuring the works of Bach, Chopin, Debussy and Stravinsky, is open to the public. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children and senior citizens. Proceeds from the concert will support the 20th Annual Piano Institute at Colby. At the conclusion of the Piano Institute, participants will perform recitals on Thursday and Friday, July 23 and 24, both at 7:30 p.m. in Lorimer Chapel. Those programs are open to the public free of charge. Di Bonaventura, the director and founder of the Piano Institute at Colby, has given concerts around the world and was featured in the Great Performances Series at New York's Lincoln Center. A professor of music and chair of the piano department at Boston University, he has received praise for his recordings, including Fourteen Scarlatti Sonatas, Rachmaninoff's Preludes, Op. 32 and selected works of Chopin, all on the Titanic label. A master piano teacher and director of the Young Artists Piano Program at Boston University's Tanglewood Institute, di Bonaventura has directed the Piano Institute at Colby since it was founded in 1979. The institute is a two-week workshop for pianists offering private lessons, master classes and guest lectures as well as the opportunity to perform in the July 23 and 24 recitals. For more information about the concert or the participants' recitals call Colby's Special Programs office at 207-872-3386. |
