Edward James Olmos at Colby September 13

Actor, producer, director and humanitarian Edward James Olmos will speak at Colby College on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 7:30 p.m. His talk, "We're All In the Same Gang," will be in the Page Commons Room of Cotter Union and is open to the public free of charge.

Born in East Los Angeles, Olmos is renown for his work in television and motion pictures. He won Emmy and Golden Globe awards for his portrayal of Lt. Castillo on "Miami Vice," and earned an Oscar nomination for his role as the eccentric but dedicated math teacher Jaime Escalante in the film "Stand and Deliver." Among his many other film credits are roles in "Blade Runner," "Selena" and "My Family/Mi Familia." Besides acting Olmos is a director and producer for television and film projects. He is executive director of the Lives in Hazard Educational Project and is active in various arts and humanities organizations, including UNICEF, where he is the U.S. Goodwill Ambassador.
