Music and Ballet Collaboration at Colby Museum

Two members of the Colby College music faculty will perform five musical compositions, and the Bossov Ballet Theatre will dance to one of them in a program at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27 in the Colby College Museum of Art's Paul J. Schupf Gallery. The event, part of the 1998-99 Music at Colby concert series, is open to the public free of charge.

Pianist Cheryl Tschanz and violinist Mary Jo Carlsen, both professional concert musicians with extensive national and international credits, will perform works by Janacek, Albinoni, Takemitsu and Ravel. In addition, six members of the Bossov Ballet Theatre will dance to a piece titled Mythes by Ukrainian composer Karol Szymanowski. Andrei Bossov, formerly of Russia's Kirov ballet, choreographed the dance and will perform a pas de deux with Risha Moskalewicz, who is travelling from Wisconsin for the performance. This will be the world premiere of Bossov's choreography to the Szymanowski music. Other members of the Bossov Ballet Theatre who will perform are Jim DeLois, Elyse Sparkes, Stephanie Jordan and Summer Wyly.

The Schupf Gallery, a spacious wing of the Colby museum, exhibits paintings, drawings and cut-outs by artist Alex Katz.
