Upcoming Events at Colby College

At 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11, the New York Gospel Choir "God's Generation" will perform in Lorimer Chapel. The Colby group "Sounds of Gospel" also will perform.

At 4 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 12, Professor Dennis Thomson, chair of the meteorology department at Pennsylvania State University will lecture on "Ethics and the Atmosphere: Potentially a Matter of Life or Death." The talk will be in Olin 01.

At 4 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 12, author Deborah McDowell, author of the acclaimed memoir Leaving Pipe Shop: Memories of Kin will read from her work in the Robinson Room of Miller Library. The book relates everyday life in a black, working-class neighborhood, Pipe Shop, near Birmingham, Ala., during the civil rights movement of the 1960s.

At 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15, poet Lawrence Lieberman will read from his recent collections of poetry, Compass of the Dying and Dark Songs: Slavehouse and Synagogue. The reading will be in the Colby College Museum of Art. Many of Lieberman's poems explore the essence of Caribbean islands.
