The Colby Collegium Musicum, under the direction of Professor Eva Linfield, will perform at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21. The concert in Colbyıs Lorimer Chapel in Waterville is part of the Music at Colby 1998-98 Concert Series. The public is invited and admission is free. The program will consist of Italian, French and German music from the 17th century. The repertoire will include music by Charpentier and Bernhard, both of whom studied with Carissimi in Rome. The concert will culminate with an oratorio by Carissimi featuring a dramatic setting of Jonah and the whale. The concert, which is primarily vocal, also will feature instrumental chamber music groups including a guitar ensemble and a string trio playing a sonata by Couperin. A small Baroque positive organ and a theorbo (a Baroque lute) will provide harmonic support. |
