Jewish Activist to Speak at Colby

Leonard Fein, a distinguished scholar of Judaic studies, will deliver the annual Lipman Lecture at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 14, in the Robins Room, Roberts Building, at Colby College. The lecture, titled "Continuity: To What End?" will examine the present condition and future prospects of Judaism and Jewish life at the dawn of the 21st Century. The Lipman Lecture, presented once each year, was endowed by Bernard Lipman '31 and is devoted to the advancement of Jewish Studies at Colby. It is open to the public and free of charge.

In 1974 Fein founded Moment magazine and was its editor until 1987. He then founded "Mazon: A Jewish Response to Hunger," the American Jewish community's principal advocacy group in the campaign against world hunger. In 1996 he founded the National Jewish Coalition for Literacy to provide 100,000 volunteer tutors from the American Jewish community to the Read America Program.
