Colby Dancers Perform "Moon Dances" April 29-May 1

"Moon Dances" is the title of this year's annual concert of original dance pieces by performing arts students and faculty members at Colby College in Waterville. The performance will be presented Thursday, April 29, through Saturday, May 1, at Colby's Strider Theater in the Runnals Performing Arts Center. Performances each night begin at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $3 for general admission and $2 for students and senior citizens. Tickets may be purchased at the box office from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday during the week of the production or from 4 p.m. until show time on performance evenings. Checks also may be mailed to the Performing Arts department at Colby. For ticket information call the box office at 872-3358.

"Moon Dances" is presented by the Performing Arts Department in conjunction with the Colby Dancers, Colby's student dance organization. Most of the pieces were created, choreographed and will be performed by students. A new work by Professor Tina Wentzel will premiere. The concert features a wide range of dance styles from jazz to contemporary. Wentzel describes the concert as "a wonderful admixture of creative ideas from pieces choreographed to original student-composed sound scores to pieces that employ only the vocals of the dancers as accompaniment. Another exciting part of the concert, is the total collaboration of students in choreography, lighting design, theater production and music to produce a unique evening of enjoyment." The performance is suitable for all ages and families with children are welcome.

"Moon Dances" is the final performance in the 1998-99 Performing Arts at Colby series.
