Colby Reunion Weekend Begins Friday

Approximately 1,500 alumni and guests are expected to visit Waterville from Friday, June 4, through Sunday, June 6, for Colby College's 1999 Reunion Weekend. Colby graduates from the 1920s to the 1990s will participate in scheduled campus events such as class dinners, book signings with Colby authors, swing dance classes and educational panels with alumni. Golf outings, a Sea Dogs game in Portland, a museum tour and boat trips are among off-campus activities.

Saturday at 11 a.m. alumni will march in the parade of classes. Dr. Merrill S. F. Greene of Lewiston, Maine, a member of the class of 1920, will be the oldest alumnus attending the parade.

Almost one half of the living members of the class of 1949 will return to Colby to celebrate their 50th reunion. Other classes ending in "4" or "9" will celebrate key reunion years.

David Jorgensen of Jorgensen's in Waterville says they see a strong impact on business during reunion weekend as alumni from a wide range of classes frequent the café and shop. "It's one of our biggest weekends," he said. "Even bigger than commencement. Almost everything that happens at Colby has a positive impact on us."

About one half of the reunion weekend participants will lodge on campus. For information on activities and registration contact the Colby Alumni Relations Office at 872-3190.
