Two Exhibits of Quilts at Colby College

"Maine Quilts '99" will be on display in Wadsworth Gymnasium at Colby College in Waterville from Friday, July 30, through Sunday, August 1. The 250-quilt show will include judged quilts, lectures, merchants and workshops. The show is open to the public and admission is $5. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Also on display at Colby is "Quilt National '97," a biennial juried art quilt exhibit, at the Colby Museum of Art through Sunday, August 1. The exhibition, consisting of 31 quilts, is one of three traveling shows that comprise a total of 80 quilts. "Quilt National '97" is co-sponsored by the Augusta-based Pine Tree Quilters Guild and is the tenth exhibition of international art quilts presented in 20 years by the Dairy Barn Southeastern Ohio Cultural Arts Center. Jurors for this collection selected final works from more than 1,200 entries submitted by nearly 600 quilt makers, the largest pool of entries ever submitted to "Quilt National." This is the first time a "Quilt National" exhibit has been shown in Maine.

Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday; 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The public is invited, and admission is free. The museum is accessible to persons with disabilities. For additional museum information, please call 872-3228.
