Studio Art Faculty Exhibits Work at Colby Museum

Members of Colby College's studio art faculty will show works in a variety of media for the annual fall Faculty Art Exhibit at the Colby Museum of Art in Waterville. The exhibit will be on view from Friday, November 12, through Thursday, December 23. An opening reception is planned for 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, November 12, and the public is invited.

Faculty members Harriett Matthews, Garry Mitchell, Dee Peppe, Scott Reed and Gail Spaien are the exhibiting artists. Matthews will show a welded sculpture and approximately ten graphite landscape and cityscape drawings she completed in Greece. Mitchell will show alkyd, wax and oil paintings on canvas and wood and alkyd paint monoprints on paper. Peppe will exhibit about ten 20 x 24-inch black and white photographs, which explore art in urban life. These works are part of a larger portfolio, "Foreign and Familiar," which encompasses scenes from the U.S. and Europe. Reed will show several acrylic paintings, monoprints and burin engravings, including the 6 x 4.5-inch engraving Goodbye. Spaien will exhibit acrylic paintings on panel from "Counting," her current series of work. The series investigates how numbers and number systems affect experiences.

Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday; 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The public is invited and admission is free. The museum is accessible to persons with disabilities. For additional museum information, please call 872-3228.
