Freeman Hrabowski III, now president of University of Maryland Baltimore County and one of Time magazine's 100 most-influential people in the world last year, led children who marched with Martin Luther King Jr. in Alabama. At age 12 Hrabowski was spat upon by Sheriff Bull Conner and spent days in jail. He now is a leading voice in higher education, particularly the success of underrepresented minorities in STEM subjects, and he was recently named by President Obama to chair the new President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for African Americans. He gave an inspirational talk at Colby Jan. 21, 2013. (26 min.)
