In 2011, the Peace Corps will commemorate 50 years of promoting peace and friendship around the world. A panel discussion featuring returned Colby Peace Corps volunteers as well as past Colby participants from several other national service programs discussed the importance of the Peace Corps and other service programs.

The panel discussion was moderated by Ambassador Robert Gelbard '64. Panelists included Ellen Whitesides '03 (Peace Corps and TFA alumna), Roger Schulman '92 (TFA alumnus and former director of TFA in Baltimore), Mary Katherine Brennan '02 (AmeriCorps alumna), and Mollie Puskar '08 (City Year Boston program manager).
