Katz Receives $312K NSF Grant

August 2, 2012

Associate Professor of Chemistry Jeffrey Katz was awarded $312,000 from the National Science Foundation to continue his research. The NSF grant includes supplies and salaries for Colby student researchers conducting undergraduate research with Professor Katz as well as travel funds for those students to present their research at national chemistry conferences. Katz's ongoing research investigates the “merging of a synthetically powerful functional group, the acetylene, with a classic organic transformation, the nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr) reaction.” The NSF grant is under the Research at Undergraduate Institutions (RUI) program.
