There's a new version of www.colby.edu designed just for mobile devices. The mobile website recognizes queries from smartphones and hand-held computer devices and automatically formats pages for the device being used. The mobile site provides information and content that people on the go are most likely to need in a format customized for a smartphone's small screen. Among a longer list of custom mobile-site pages are dining menus, calendars, directions to campus, directories, and athletics news and results.
The mobile site offers different views depending on the age of the device. For older cell phones, including BlackBerrys using version 4.7 or before, basic formatting and layout are designed for very small screens. Users of modern smartphones, such as the iPhone, Android OS, and newer BlackBerrys, get features such as expanding menus and layouts designed for those devices.
Sections of the mobile site that are customized for mobile devices include news, athletics, events, directories, webmail, campus maps, directions, dining menus, scheduling information, and more.
