Event Description:
The Gerrish Fund is pleased to bring J. C. Watts to the Colby campus on Wednesday evening November 8, 2006. He will be speaking about character, expanding on his quote that:

Character is doing the right thing when nobody's looking. There are too many people who think that the only thing that's right is to get by, and the only thing that's wrong is to get caught.

A former congressman, J. C. Watts is a business man, ordained minister and professional athlete. He is a visionary statesman whose concerns encompass the health and welfare of people around the world.

Rising from small town origins to become the embodiment of the American dream, J.C. Watts became a high-profile congressman who made an indelible mark on the national scene, serving as chairman of the House Republican Conference and honorary co-chair of the Republican National Convention in 2000. He was also a star quarterback leading the University of Oklahoma to two Orange Bowl victories and was twice named Most Valuable Player.

He is chairman of J.C. Watts Companies, which provide services in communication, business and public affairs, and his co-chairmanship of the Coalition for AIDS Relief in Africa reflects his concern for global issues such as poverty and health the world over. J. C. Watts is also the author of What Color Is A Conservative? And is a frequent guest on national and international television news and radio shows.

A man of vision, he is often quoted and frequently turned to by both print and broadcast media for his views on the issues of the day, Watts brings an informed viewpoint and relentless passion to issues of fiscal discipline, national defense, education, citizenship and patriotism.

The Gerrish Fund for Spiritual Enrichment has been established by the gifts of Allan and Gail 62? Gerrish. The purpose of the Fund is to raise awareness of the important place that values will play throughout students' lives at Colby and beyond.
