Event Description:
Cantor, liberal, Yalie, Jew. Which would you least likely meet in the U.S. military? David Frommer served as all four on his recent deployment to Kuwait and Afghanistan. After college Frommer volunteered for 15 months as a combat soldier in the Israel Defense Forces. Following cantorial studies at Hebrew Union College and after training as a chaplain with the New York Army National Guard, he deployed overseas as the first-ever cantor to serve as a chaplain in the U.S. military. At 5:30 p.m. in the Pugh Center Frommer will describe his job providing pastoral care to soldiers of all faiths in Chaplaincy at War: One Cantor's Journey in the U.S. Armed Forces.
