On April 1, 2009, at 7 p.m., in Ostrove Auditorium, Alex de Waal, an activist on African issues, spoke about the genocide in Sudan, about which he is frequently quoted in news outlets worldwide. A fellow of the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, de Waal is also a program director at the Social Science Research Council and a co-director of Justice Africa.
John F. Kennedy: The Influence of Personality and Politics on the 1960s
Prior to the performance of JACK, an opera about the life of John F. Kennedy, at the Waterville Opera House on September 15, 2008, professors G. Calvin Mackenzie and Robert Weisbrot, authors of the recently released and highly acclaimed book The Liberal Hour, joined JACK co-lyricist, Tom Sawyer, for a discussion about JFK in Ostrove Auditorium.
