No Matter

The woman on the TV says to her husband,

"That's okay."

Plush synthetic floor coverings ruined.

Spray cleaners are the saints of my generation.

The battered woman says to her lover,

"No matter."

Blood drips on the carpet, and

coming from the TV, she hears a voice say,

"That's okay."
